A&R Cambridge Ltd was founded in 1976 by the passion of John Dawson, an engineering student at Cambridge University and a great music lover. The first series product, the legendary A60 integrated amplifier, in 1976, marked its definitive commercial success. But John was, is, a great visionary and was the first to understand that music reproduction could not stop at Hi-Fi in the strict sense, and that the TV broadcast market could be an excellent alternative, and this when Home Theater did not yet exist. He made his debut in 1995 with Xeta1, the first AV amplifier by Arcam.

Today the manufacturer's Home Theater range is deep and able to meet many needs. However, the range lacked an entry-level product that, while guaranteeing Arcam's "minimum quality", met the economic needs of a wider segment of enthusiasts.

It's called AVR5 , and it is, simply, an AVR 10 in all respects, but without the DIRAC system and consequent microphone supplied, which obviously can be purchased later. Same technical characteristics, and therefore DAC (2xSabre ESS9026Pro), DSP and final sections in Class AB 7x85W with 7.1.4 channels, HDMI 2.0b inputs and 4K UHD HDR10 video outputs with HDCP 2.2.

It is compatible with Dolby Atmos (upmixed from Dolby Surround) and DTS:X (upmixed from DTS:Neural:X) supports AirPlay2, Bluetooth aptX HD, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, MQA and is a Roon end-point. The power supply is particularly well-finished, with a very oversized transformer (maximum consumption 1.5kW), audio-grade filter capacitors and separate power supply branches for the power amplifier, preamplifier, DAC and DSP sections and, finally, a separate power supply for the services.

The connectivity is very extensive and consists of 7 HDMI inputs/2 outputs, RCA outputs for all channels, 6 analogue inputs, 4 coaxial, 3 optical and Ethernet, and it is also possible to control the Arcam AVR5 via the Harman Music Life App, which allows playback and control via Android or iOS devices, as well as providing access to Internet radio, music streaming and podcasts.
