6000A Amplifier
In 1983 Audiolab launched the iconic 8000 Series, taking the British hi-fi scene by storm and cementing its reputation as one of the most significant hi-fi products of its time.
35 years later….
audiolab is ready to repeat this feat with the all-new 6000 series, ideal for modern music lovers looking for high-level performance, build quality and service at an affordable price.
Integrated amplifier
An amplifier remains the beating heart of any high-performance audio system, but in 2018 a truly versatile integrated amplifier needs to cover a lot of bases: digital and analogue sources, wireless connectivity for portable devices, a phono stage for vinyl playback, amplification for headphones and speakers… That’s a lot to pack in while keeping performance high and price affordable – and yet, that’s exactly what the 6000A offers.
The Sound of Science
Externally, the 6000A bears a strong resemblance to the 8300A with its rotary controls and large central OLED display. Unlike its more expensive, analogue-only sibling, it incorporates high-quality D/A conversion, allowing direct connection of digital sources without an external DAC. It provides four digital inputs, three line-level analogue inputs, a turntable input, wireless connectivity via Bluetooth and a dedicated headphone amplifier, in addition to its ability to drive loudspeakers.
Digital circuits
Much effort has gone into ensuring that the 6000A’s digital circuitry delivers the level of quality you’d expect from a high-performance standalone DAC. As always, Audiolab has turned to the ES9018 Sabre32 Reference family of chips to perform the D/A conversion, using ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator to deliver extremely low noise and high dynamic range.
No company knows how to best exploit this technically excellent, yet challenging, DAC technology from Audiolab.
The 6000A's discrete Class AB power stage delivers 50W per channel into eight ohms, with a maximum current delivery of 9A into difficult loads. The discrete power amplifier circuitry's output stage uses a Complementary Feedback (CFB) topology, which provides superior linearity and excellent thermal stability, as the no-load current is kept independent of the temperature of the output transistors.
A substantial 200VA toroidal transformer, followed by 4x15000uF tank capacitance (60000uF in total), helps the amplifier maintain constant control of the music, allowing for excellent dynamic range.
The preamplifier section is kept as simple as possible to maintain signal purity, with line input signals passing to a precision analogue volume stage. This covers the range from -80dB to +8dB in 2dB and 1dB steps (step resolution increases with volume setting). Much effort has gone into the physical circuit layout of the 6000A, protecting the sensitive preamplifier section from noise interference.
