AES/EBU, jointly developed by the Audio Engineering Society and the European Broadcast Union, has established a two-channel digital standard for interconnecting digital devices in the professional world. But AES/EBU also has its application in the home environment. While AES/EBU can be single-ended, balanced, or optical, here we refer to balanced-digital interconnection.

Perfect-Surface Technology applied to ultra-pure silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Perfect-Surface Silver (PSS) is AudioQuest's premium metal. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Ultra-pure Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries found in any metal conductor, eliminating harshness and dramatically increasing clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers.

Hard cell foam insulation
Hard Cell Foam Insulation (HCF) provides critical signal pair geometry. Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is effectively part of an imperfect circuit. Insulation and circuit board materials absorb energy. Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Hard Cell Foam Insulation is similar to the expanded foam insulation used in our more affordable Bridges & Falls cables and is nitrogen injected to create air pockets. Since nitrogen (like air) does not absorb energy and therefore does not release energy from or into the conductor, distortion is reduced. Additionally, the rigidity of the material allows the conductors to maintain a stable relationship throughout the length of the cable, producing a stable impedance character and further minimizing distortion.

The shielding is made up of foil plus tinned braid

Carbon-based 7-layer Noise Dissipation System (NDS)
100% shield coverage is easy to achieve. Preventing captured radio frequency interference (RFI) by modulating the equipment ground reference requires AQ’s Noise-Dissipation System (NDS). Traditional shielding systems typically absorb and then dissipate RF noise/energy to the component ground, modulating and distorting the critical “reference” ground plane, which in turn causes signal distortion. Alternating layers of carbon-loaded metal and synthetic NDS “shield,” absorbing and reflecting most of this RF noise/energy before it reaches the ground-attached layer.
