The cable leverages the same output and noise-dissipating technologies as the nrg storm series of AC cables, but at significantly lower prices.
Ideal for video displays, amplified speakers and all other electronic devices, NRG-Y3 (3-core) cables utilize 7 directionally controlled Long Grain Copper (LGC) conductors in a semi-solid concentric arrangement where individual copper strands are twisted more tightly together and maintain the same position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces strand interaction distortion. The higher purity and more uniform grain structure of Long Grain Copper further reduces distortion. Additionally, NRG-Y3’s silver-plated shield conductors efficiently control RF noise to ground.

THE CHALLENGE: No matter how perfect an AC power source, distortion is added within any AC cable. Even the most sophisticated filters and power supplies cannot eliminate this Transient Intermodulation (TIM) distortion as the induced RF noise modulates the low-level audio/video signal.
THE SOLUTION: NRG-Y3 cables utilize directionally controlled Long Grain (LGC) longitudinal wires in a semi-solid concentric conductor arrangement where the strands are packed more tightly together and never change position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces strand interaction distortion. The higher purity and less complex grain structure within LGC copper further reduces distortion.
Semi-Solid Concentric Long Grain Copper (LGC) Conductors: In a conventional multi-strand cable, distortion caused by the interaction of electrical and magnetic strands is compounded as each strand changes position within the bundle. In an AQ Semi-Solid Concentric cable, the strands within the bundle maintain their fixed relationships, significantly reducing distortion. Long Grain Copper (LGC) allows for smoother, clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (oxygen-free high conductivity) copper. LGC has fewer oxides within the conductor material, fewer impurities, fewer grain boundaries, and significantly better performance.
Silver-Plated Drain Wires: Directionally controlled, silver-plated shielded conductors effectively drain RF noise from the line and neutral shields to ground via the third “ground” pin. The net result is powerful, dynamic and engaging.
Zero Characteristic Impedance: While many AC power cables feature low DC resistance to accommodate high current demands, a cable's characteristic impedance is also critical for optimum performance. Unlike most AC cables that compress an audio-induced transient, AudioQuest AC cables combine low DC resistance and zero (non) characteristic impedance to deliver uncompressed transients on demand.
