The Type 4 speaker cable model was first introduced around 1983. It wasn't the prettiest cable, but the performance advantage of its polypropylene insulation was noticeable and much appreciated.
Several evolutionary steps later, the current version of the Type 4 was introduced in 1995, a design whose foundations are so well balanced that they have not changed since then, and are still not changing.
Type 9 + DBS Low Distortion, Low Noise Speaker Cable is essentially a Type 4 with improved metal, added layers and noise-dissipating techniques for more effective noise control, and AQ’s patented Dialectric-Bias (DBS) system. Additionally, Type-9 + DBS conductors are slightly larger than previous Series 4 cables. The conductors are spaced slightly further apart, reducing interaction between adjacent conductors by 35%.
