Bladelius YMER III - Stereo Power Amplifier

In Norse mythology, Ymer was the ancestor of all giants, from whose body the gods created the world and the heavens. The YMER III is truly a giant to rule the world of power amplifiers.

This Swedish power amplifier embodies all the experience we at Bladelius have accumulated over the centuries. With its two gigantic toroidal power transformers, it generates a whopping 400 watts at 8 ohms. Although very powerful, its primary focus is musicality, not just raw power. It truly lives up to the Oden name, offering impeccable speaker drive, symbolizing the uncompromising design and quality that Bladelius has set as the purest standard in the industry.

The positive and negative current paths through the voice coil must be completely symmetrical to accurately drive the speaker diaphragm. So, naturally, symmetry was a particular concern when designing the YMER III. The search for complete balance in the amplifier circuit, the power supply circuit, and the structural aspects was paramount.

With our Simpler is Better design philosophy, we've reduced the voltage amplifier stage to a single stage for the shortest possible signal path. The YMER III offers a truly balanced design, rarely found without a ground reference, for the highest possible performance. A high-performance DC servo operates outside the signal path. The input stage is driven by a pair of manually matched current-loaded JFETs in a cascaded foldback arrangement, providing highly linear performance regardless of playback level. This, combined with current feedback, delivers extremely fast and stable performance.

To increase power purity and achieve more responsive and consistent audio reproduction, the rectifier stage has been completely redesigned, and an even larger bank of European-made slotted foil capacitors rated over 260,000 uF effortlessly helps deliver the smooth, dynamic sound with excellent transient response that YMER III was designed for. True to Bladelius' long-standing design philosophy, Simpler is better, YMER III minimizes the number of components required for the first stage, allowing music to be amplified in its purest form and pass through the circuit without losing even the most subtle information.

A pair of JFET devices carefully hand-selected by our production line specialist has been incorporated into the amplifier's redesigned input circuitry. This improves the operational stability of the amplification. As a result, every production unit of the YMER II has identical performance characteristics, and the YMER II delivers identical performance between the left and right channels. Furthermore, the new DC servo circuit stabilizes the amplification, is resistant to variations in operating temperature and input signal strength, and will also eliminate fluctuations in sound intensity. All this attention to detail ensures that these amplifiers produce powerful, condensed sound with deep, rich bass, allowing the listener to enjoy a truly immersive stereophonic experience.

Via a rear-mounted switch, the user can conveniently select to operate the unit in High- or Low Bias mode, meaning a higher level of Class A or a more standard Class A/B mode.
