New material
The benchmark is the new BCT membranes, which are used in the mid and low frequency range. These BCT drivers are the result of years of development and ensure a highly dynamic and highly precise execution. The new tweeters with BC membranes made of black aluminum oxide ceramic ensure exceptional precision and clarity in the highs. The Reference 1 speaker housings have been acoustically optimized and feature a seamless design, which ensures a seamless connection between the sound and the rear and side walls. This design sets new standards in terms of radiation behavior, stability and low resonance.

Design and technology

Great attention is paid to the craftsmanship of the Reference 1 loudspeakers. The enclosures are divided into three chambers that are perfectly matched to the different parts of the 3-way speaker structure. This allows each of the five drivers to optimally develop their sound qualities. The bass is generated by three 219 mm woofers with ceramic tungsten membranes. Together with the newly developed bass guide, they deliver clear and dynamic bass reproduction up to 18 Hertz. The 174 mm midrange driver uses the same membrane material as the woofers, ensuring seamless midrange dynamics. The midrange is deliberately positioned in the upper part of the speaker and contributes significantly to the authentic representation of voices and stage presence. The drivers are embedded in the round baffle and are complemented by special ASW cover rings (asymmetrical waveguide rings) made of POM material. These rings act as waveguides in the high and mid range to optimize radiation.

Pure performance

To control the dynamics that our Reference 1 can develop, the curved side walls, as well as the bottom and top, are made of multi-layer laminate. The 60 millimeter thick baffle is milled from solid. With elaborate internal stiffeners and precisely defined damping of the housing, we create the ideal conditions for perfect sound development from the newly developed Reference speaker chassis. The new cover rings, as well as the high-end connection terminals, are made of polyoxymethylene (POM), an extremely resistant and rigid plastic with high density, excellent internal damping and the best formability. The fine-pored, satin-finished surface, covered with a thin layer of lacquer, ensures an elegant appearance and makes the material even more resistant.

Bass Guide
Canton's unique bass reflex system with bass guide has been redesigned along with many other elements. In this system, the bass reflex opening is integrated into the housing and works according to the combined principle of front and return firing. The air is controlled via a channel in the base plate and directed to both the front and rear of the case. This creates an extraordinarily stable bass resonance, regardless of the position in the room.
