Modular construction for easy repairs or future upgrades. Impedance 50 ohm. 90dB. Weight: 431g. Made in Japan. New carrying case with TSA lock.
Same features as the D8000DC, with a different transducer tuning, to better adapt to the characteristics of human hearing, where low frequencies become more evident as the listening volume increases.
The Final Audio D8000 DC headphones have been completely redesigned. The "DC" that follows the model name comes from the term Da Capo (meaning "return to the beginning" in musical scores). Seven years after the launch of the D8000, and with over 2,000 units sold worldwide, Final Audio has decided to revisit the original design.
The driver diaphragm has been completely re-engineered from the manufacturing process, and the proprietary "AFDS: Air Film Damping System*" has been completely redesigned, featuring a new hole diameter, pitch, and metal punching pattern. Furthermore, by removing the magnet from the front of the driver, the diaphragm's aperture ratio has been increased by approximately 70% compared to the previous model. The ear cushions have also been made 1.5 times thicker than before, significantly increasing acoustic volume. In addition to maintaining a very open soundstage, with deep low frequencies and delicate highs, every note has become more refined and more relevant to live reproduction. Furthermore, the design changes have resulted in a weight reduction of approximately 100 grams, and the use of a special "washi" (Japanese paper) fabric has also ensured wearing comfort that does not cause fatigue even after hours of listening.
AFDS: Air Film Damping System
In conventional planar magnetic speakers, the large width of the diaphragm causes it to come into contact with structural elements at low frequencies, necessitating a reproducible low-frequency cutoff. The previous model, the D8000, overcame this problem with its exclusive "AFDS" technology, which controls the movement of the diaphragm through air viscosity, allowing for extended low-frequency reproduction. This innovation solved the inherent problem of planar magnetic drivers—the weakness of bass reproduction—and effectively represented a breakthrough in the planar magnetic driver.
In the D8000 DC model, this "AFDS" technology has been further refined, with the hole diameter, pitch, and type of metal used for the punching being redesigned. Furthermore, different punching patterns have been used on the front and back of the diaphragm. As a result, even in combination with the bearings, full-bodied bass and a very open sound have been achieved. The ultra-lightweight diaphragm is machined from an extremely thin, easily engraved aluminum sheet, eliminating the need for the characteristic dynamic speaker structure in which the voice coil conductors are attached to the diaphragm, thus reducing the moving mass by approximately one-third. By pursuing the fundamental design principles, a delicate reproduction of high frequencies that was previously unattainable has been achieved.
Basket structure in aluminum and magnesium alloy
To make "AFDS" possible, an exceptionally high level of precision is required compared to standard driver units. To avoid unnecessary resonances and securely hold the driver, high rigidity is also required. Therefore, the basket is made of an aluminum-magnesium alloy and machined with extremely high precision. The finish is a special coating similar to that used on high-end camera bodies.
Open Ear Cushions Made of Washi Paper
Closed-back headphones typically extend the low-frequency range more, as they seal the space around the ear. Open-back headphones typically allow for a more natural low-frequency output by avoiding excessive closure of the head. For high-quality, naturally expansive low frequencies, the driver unit itself must be able to reproduce the low range, even using ear cushions with a looser seal and excellent breathability. Thanks to the "AFDS" technology of the D8000 DC model, low-frequency reproduction has been extended by the driver unit itself, making it possible to reproduce sufficient low frequencies even with loose-sealing ear cushions. The ear cushions, which play a key role in sound quality, feature a specially developed washi paper fabric to ensure a natural and long-lasting feel, as well as a foam material that offers excellent breathability. Furthermore, the thickness of the cushions has been increased 1.5 times compared to previous models, increasing the volume of the acoustic space. This results in a wider soundstage and more homogeneous vocal reproduction. The bow was also built with the same materials, ensuring high durability and resistance over time.
Made in Japan
The Final Audio D8000 DC is entirely manufactured at Final Audio's headquarters in Kawasaki. Assembly precision is greatly influenced by the accuracy of the components and assembly tools (jigs). To allow for fine adjustments during assembly, Final designed and manufactured jigs in-house. Custom equipment, such as diaphragm molding machines and diaphragm tension gauges, has also been developed. To create truly exceptional products, one must be directly involved in the processing of materials. The strength of "Made in Japan" comes from the ability to collaborate with material manufacturers, which allows us to control the entire process, from raw materials to assembly, ensuring high product quality.
Long-lasting and repairable project
