Dynavector DV - XX - 2 MK2 Moving coil low output phono cartridge
The DV XX-1 was the first cartridge to feature "magnetic flux damping" (patent) and softened magnetism (patent) processes that reject magnetic fluctuation that is detrimental to the performance of moving coil cartridges.
The DV XX-2 MKII retains the advantage of the flux damper but features the Alnico-5 magnet and rigid structure similar to the Te Kaitora Rua. Alnico magnets exhibit a high magnetic flux density which combines with low coercive, so magnetic resistance is lower than other magnetic types such as rare earth and ferrite, providing the XX-2 MKII's exceptional output voltage stability. There is also the added benefit of low magnetic and electrical resistance which contributes to a noticeable improvement in sound quality.
The XX-2MKII also displays deep, powerful bass, the highs are both clear and lively possessing none of the harshness found in many moving coil designs.
The XX-2MKII also features a 6mm solid boron cantilever equipped with a Pathfinder Line contact stylus. PCOCC (pure copper ohno continuous casting process) copper wire is used for the voice coil. The output voltage of 0.28mV is higher than that of the XX-2, and the impedance of 6 ohms is suitable for most moving coil phono stages.
For construction rigidity, the XX-2 MKII cartridge body is machined from 7075 aluminum, the hardest available. However, with a total weight of only 8.9 grams, it is suitable for a variety of popular tonearms.
