LUXMAN's latest phono cartridge is the LMC-5. After 40 years of experience, our goal was to design it to have sensitivity to all the musical information printed on a record. The MC-type power generation motor features a cross-mounted iron core with a compact magnet system to improve efficiency. For the vibration detection system, we selected a combination of an aluminum cantilever and a SHIBATA stylus, which boasts excellent tracking ability. In addition, the unique housing structure was achieved through repeated prototyping and fine-tuning. We have developed this cartridge with confidence for all those who love vinyl and appreciate its musicality.

Stylus and motor for power generation

LUXMAN has consistently designed components for vinyl playback such as our PD Series analog players and our E/EQ phono equalizer amplifier series. After a 2-year development period, the LMC-5 is the first original LUXMAN cartridge in 40 years. For the stylus, in order to read the musical information pressed onto the disc accurately and reliably, we selected a combination of an aluminum cantilever with high tracking ability and a SHIBATA stylus to collect a large amount of information with less audible noise. To ensure the core of the vibration system, a low-distortion structure was realized using the single-point "piano wire" support method. The MC-type power generation motor uses a cross-mounted iron core with the left and right channel coils wound symmetrically. Adopting a magnetic structure with a small field area reduces the intrusion of external noise. We have achieved significant reductions in size and weight.

From our experiences with closed body designs, the voice coil and cantilever can act as a microphone, picking up reflected sound, so reducing the casing results in less coloration of the sound. To prioritize weight reduction and resonance countermeasures, the casing is crafted with a minimal design that still firmly supports the power generation motor. The minimized outer frame has an inverted egg-shaped curve that suppresses unnecessary reflected sound and vibration. The machined aluminum body is anodized in a deep red, which is LUXMAN's corporate color, and with the laser-etched L brand logo on the front, it subtly asserts LUXMAN's identity. Each is carefully assembled by our team of craftsmen, the best in Japanese cartridge manufacturing, and delivered to music lovers, all over the world.
