The allure of timeless vinyl reproduction deepens with our LUXMAN PD-151 MARKII, a new standard in the pursuit of functional beauty.

The PD-151 was developed so that the music listener could fully enjoy the luxurious audio experience unique to analog, with vinyl phonograph records continuing to be popular as an attractive music reproduction medium. Our long-awaited new model inherits the excellent performance and functional beauty of that model, while featuring a new tonearm with original specifications that is highly sensitive. The PD-151 MARKII has arrived as a new benchmark for belt-drive integrated analog players. We deliver excellence in analog vinyl reproduction, inviting the listener into a world beyond digital audio.

New knife edge bearing arm

The PD-151 MARK II is newly equipped with LUXMAN’s original static balance tonearm, the LTA-309, featuring knife-edge bearing technology developed by Japanese brand SAEC, with over 40 years of experience. The tonearm base is machined from aluminum, minimizing the contact area, mounted to suppress unwanted vibration while ensuring rigidity. In addition to basic adjustment mechanisms such as stylus pressure and anti-skating, the LTA-309 also supports precise settings to optimize playback quality, such as adjusting the tonearm height to match the cartridge being mounted. This S-shaped tonearm uses an H4 bayonet-mount headshell, allowing easy installation of phono cartridges such as the LUXMAN LMC-5.

New proprietary high precision/high torque DC motor

The purity of musical pitch depends entirely on the stability of the platter rotation. That's why LUXMAN engineers have gone to great lengths. It starts with our unique sine wave/pulse width modulation power supply, which provides ultra-stable DC current to our proprietary brushless DC motor. Years in development, this low-speed, high-torque motor incorporates low acoustic noise bearings and internal structure. The drive system monitors and maintains speed with our proportional-integral-differential (PID) feedback control loop. Proportional means rapid achievement of target speed. Integral means rapid correction of minor errors. And differential means control over rapid fluctuations. For greater precision, the motor drives the outer flange of the platter via an unusually wide belt for stable playing speeds of 33, 45 and 78 rpm with manual pitch adjustment of +/-6% available.

High mass platter and highly rigid stainless steel spindle

LUXMAN engineers were determined to optimize the ultimate guarantor of stable speed; the platter assembly itself. The PD-151 MARK II has a 4.0kg platter that is precision machined from a thick billet of aluminium, then diamond-cut to achieve precise surfaces. The platter acts as a flywheel, with a large moment of inertia (0.219 t cm2) to ensure smooth, stable rotation. The spindle that supports the platter is a hard, highly rigid 16mm diameter stainless steel shaft, with bearings at the lower end. It comfortably supports the weight of the platter with a bearing structure that combines a thrust bearing lubricated with PEEK* material, with excellent heat and wear resistance, and a brass radial bearing filled with organic molybdenum oil that maintains excellent lubrication under high load. A turntable mat made of a special vibration-absorbing rubber material is included to support vinyl records during playback.
*PEEK is short for polyetheretherketone

LUXMAN exterior design pursues functional beauty

The PD-151 MARK II inherits the acclaimed LUXMAN exterior design and operational layout of our previous model PD-151. The top panel, crafted from 10mm thick aluminum with its delicate thin finish, pursues simplicity and functional beauty with the component layout reduced to just the three main elements of the analog player; the tonearm, drive motor and platter. Operational controls such as the power switch, motor (rotation) ON/OFF switch, rotation speed select switch, indicators, etc. are all integrated into the front panel of the PD-151 MARK II. In addition to providing highly intuitive operation and visibility, the beautiful aluminum top panel combines with the matte black bottom case to create a deep visual contrast. A specially crafted 4mm thick acrylic dust cover featuring cam/spring support hinges for easy opening and smooth closing is available and highly recommended, sold separately.

LUXMAN 3-step rotation speed switching with independent regulation functions

The PD-151 MARK II supports three rotation speeds: 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm. With the entire system independently prepared for each rotation speed, you can make fine and precise adjustments by observing the rotation speed deviation indicator (LED)*.
*Rotation speed deviation indicator: normal (solid green), slow (flashing green), fast (flashing blue) at all times.

Internal damping material

To accurately detect and reproduce an extremely low-level analog audio signal and provide output to an amplifier without deterioration, it is necessary to completely suppress unwanted vibrations. Inside the PD-151 MARK II, the motor and power transformer, which are often sources of such vibrations, are mounted with a special damping rubber to prevent interference with high-quality audio signals.

Unique underbody structure

The PD-151 MARK II achieved both rigidity and vibration damping by attaching heavy components to the bottom of the 10mm thick aluminum top panel using our original damped suspension method. We adopted a frame structure that controls small vibrations within a box-like frame at the bottom, while the cross-member forms the top panel.

Height-adjustable damping insulators

Isolation feet that support the entire structure are vital to an analog player as they track the tiny grooves pressed into a phonograph record. The PD-151 MARK II incorporates vibration-damping rubber with excellent temperature characteristics into our originally designed isolation feet, with independent height adjustment up to 5mm, preventing feedback and the transmission of external vibrations.

Signal cables for headshell and phono

A lightweight, original machined aluminum shell with the LUXMAN logo and an aluminum EP adapter are included as standard. To accommodate the phono cartridge output, we have adopted audio grade OFC wiring in the high-quality and highly versatile DIN-RCA phono cables. Future upgrades are also possible.

AC input and power cord

The AC inlet structure has been improved to support the weight of heavy power cords by inverting the mounting, suppressing any movement of the power cord while maintaining a stable grip.
