LUXMAN introduces the PD-191A, a premium turntable system designed to replace the long-running PD-171 series.

Experience the infinitely rich warmth of a piece of music and that special sense of time passing differently when you play a treasured analog recording. The PD-191A is an exceptional player that delivers the ultimate vinyl playback experience. Our newly developed original tonearm, with extremely high initial sensitivity, uses a knife-edge vertical bearing system to realize the sensitive movements that make up the subtle nuances of a musical moment. Combining a belt-drive system with a quiet and refined DC motor supported by a robust power supply; the PD-191A delivers a truly high-fidelity and emotional vinyl listening experience.

Newly designed arm, completely original

Specially developed for the PD-191A is our LTA-710 static balanced tonearm that uses knife-edge bearing technology for excellent sensitivity to initial motion. A joint development with audio brand SAEC, which has been designing tonearms for over 40 years, the LTA-710 brings many highly regarded technologies to the LUXMAN turntable family. A fully-fledged original tonearm design that took two and a half years to develop. By setting the effective length of the tonearm to 10 inches, tracking errors are further suppressed and resistance to the effects of vinyl surface vibration is improved. Even the most delicate musical signals picked up by the phono cartridge from the record grooves are faithfully reproduced. In addition, the LTA-710 supports detailed settings such as stylus pressure, anti-skating, height adjustment to match the cartridge to be installed, etc., which is only possible because the tonearm is assembled with high mechanical precision to carefully maintain fidelity reproduction.
*The SAEC brand is owned by Saec Commerce Co., Ltd.

Brushless DC motor and high capacity power supply

The drive motor is a critical component of a belt-driven analog player where powerful and stable platter rotation is of paramount importance. The PD-191A features an original, high-precision, high-torque brushless DC motor, supported by a highly stable, fully regulated, float-mounted, large-capacity power transformer, which has been upgraded to higher specifications for today's popular high-mass platters. Our sine wave PWM/PID* rotation speed control programming achieves consistent and accurate rotation control under various demands, and a high-performance reference clock is used for speed correction, using a MEMS oscillator with excellent temperature characteristics. As a result, precise speeds and quiet platter drive are assured.
*PID rotation speed control: "Proportional: proportional operation" quickly adapts to the target rotation speed, "Integral: integral operation" control system to correct small errors, "Differential: differential operation" quick automatic adjustment for speed fluctuations. The PD-191A programming system fully integrates these controls with the drive motor unit.

A heavy, high-mass platter with a huge moment of inertia

The platter chosen for the PD-191A is a heavy 35 mm, 5.2 kg disc, machined from a single piece of extremely thick aluminum, precision-cut with diamonds and polished to exacting surfaces that beautifully reflect light. The platter acts as a flywheel with a massive moment of inertia of 0.7 t cm2, ensuring smooth and safe rotation. The spindle supporting the platter boasts high-rigidity specifications with its high-tensile strength stainless steel shaft (diameter 16 mm) and a custom bearing support system. This structure combines a PEEK* thrust bearing, with its excellent heat resistance and wear resistance, with a brass radial bearing filled with organic molybdenum oil that maintains stable lubrication even under high loads, firmly supporting the platter. The motor’s energy is transferred to the platter via an age-resistant EPDM* drive belt, which precisely supports the output of the loss-free, high-torque brushless DC motor.
*PEEK is short for polyetheretherketone, a super-engineered plastic
*EPDM is short for ethylene propylene dienetherpolymer with excellent aging resistance.

Elegant and timeless LUXMAN industrial design, featuring a wooden front panel and a frame with a low center of gravity

Our selection and finish of the exterior and structural materials that comprise the finished product are very important to us as we believe that the listener’s use of an analog player should be a tactile and visually satisfying experience. A feast for the eyes, the PD-191A is elegant and sophisticated, with a natural rosewood stained solid wood front panel in a beautiful high gloss finish, contrasting with a finely treated aluminum top panel. Furthermore, by moving the motor mounting inside the bottom chassis, we have realized a sleek, low-center-of-gravity form with an overall height 12mm lower than the previous PD-171A. Furthermore, by focusing on the operating systems, such as power, turntable start/stop, rotation speed switching and adjustment on the top panel, we have pursued utilitarian and functional beauty. A specially crafted 4mm thick acrylic dust cover featuring cam/spring support hinges for easy opening and smooth closing is available and highly recommended (sold separately).

Integrated multiple vibration damping structures

The underlying suspension structure, in which the main components are fixed

Three selectable rotation speeds with pitch control and strobe indicator

The PD-191A supports 3 rotation speeds, 33 1/3, 45 and 78 RPM. To display the rotation speed, we have adopted a reflected LED strobe, which was well received with the previous PD-171 series. The new model of strobe reflective strip has improved visibility, and by using a dedicated control for each individual rotation speed, more reliable and precise rotation speed adjustments are possible.

Original anti-vibration design

In order to maintain horizontal alignment, the PD-191A incorporates a special damping rubber with excellent temperature characteristics and resistance to long-term deterioration into our originally designed large-diameter isolation legs, each of which can be adjusted in level up to 5 mm in height to prevent the transmission of feedback and external vibrations.

Headshell and phono cable

Our original lightweight aluminum headshell with the LUXMAN logo has unique specifications and features DUCC cable conductors. Also included is an aluminum EP adapter and a standard 5-pin (DIN type) to RCA phono cable using audio grade OFC wire. Aftermarket cable replacement upgrades are possible.

AC input and power cord

The AC input is gold plated to reduce contact resistance and the entire terminal has been improved and mounted inverted to support a heavy AC cable.

Abundant options for arm mounting

By making the tonearm base independent, it is easy to install various tonearms (9- to 10-inch) from different manufacturers (separately sold tonearm bases are common for the PD-171A/AL). An external tonearm base that supports a 12-inch tonearm (originally designed for the SME 3012) is also available (sold separately) on the rear of the main unit to expand the enjoyment of vinyl record playback.
