The Magnetar UDP900 is the new high-end universal 4K player proposed by the brand with the aim of bringing the audio and video playback quality of Blu-ray discs to the highest levels and of guaranteeing excellent performance also in the hi-fi field thanks to the ability to play CDs, SACDs and DVD-Audio.
Befitting its class, this player is well-built with an aluminum alloy body and double-layer reinforced chassis structure, while the main internal components are independently shielded by a metal case, thus greatly reducing vibration, noise and external magnetic field interference, to always ensure the purest possible audio and video quality.
Inside the cabinet we find a dual power supply, consisting of a 60W toroidal transformer for analog audio and a separate 60W high-power, low-noise transformer for surround sound and high-resolution music.
The motherboard is 6-layer and includes a TCXO temperature-compensated crystal oscillator with ultra-low phase noise and the same quad-core Mediatek MT8581 processor chip as its smaller brother, while the dedicated stereo output card is 4-layer and uses high-quality capacitors, and finally the digital to analog conversion is handled by a prestigious DAC such as the 32-bit ESS Sabre PRO Hyperstream II, an 8-channel audio DAC.
We will then have an ESS9028PRO driving the 7.1 RCA outputs while an ESS9038PRO drives the balanced XLR stereo outputs, but logically the player can also output digital audio, via the HDMI, optical or coaxial output.
On the video side of things, the UDP900 supports HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, but as mentioned, as well as being a 4K Blu-ray player, it's actually also a universal disc player that can handle a myriad of optical disc formats.
While the UDP900 supports all the same disc and file formats as the UDP800 and features the same 16TB of HDD storage, the main differences are the addition of a 7.1 analogue audio output, the use of an ESS Sabre DAC and the use of an updated power supply.
