As inhabitants of the Maramures region, our philosophy of life is intertwined with the ancient forests that surround us and we are taught to appreciate and respect this craft from an early age. With Primal, we have taken this deeply rooted expertise and shaped it into a new perspective on headphone design.
Each wooden frame has been meticulously carved, groove by groove, and gently sanded to ensure maximum smoothness. Linseed oil is then applied to beautify the carved frames. This finishing touch gives the wood a natural, matte texture that accentuates the grain and restores its natural, eye-catching color.

DIAPHRAGM DESIGN
The diaphragm is the heart of the headphones, producing the waves that our brains ultimately perceive as sound. To achieve the acoustic goals we set for the 109 PRO, we focused our R&D efforts on materials research, seeking the perfect balance between mass and rigidity that would maximize the headphones’ sonic capabilities.
Our research led to the development of the 109 Series dual composite diaphragm, a combination of beryllium-coated polymer, cellulose-carbon fiber composite, and copper-zinc alloy.
In a world of fast-paced technology, we rely on proven fundamentals. Our new 50mm dynamic driver, assembled and tuned with the utmost precision, has allowed us to push the limits of speed, accuracy and dynamic range.
Made from a carbon-fiber-reinforced cellulose composite, the W-shaped dome is capable of reproducing high frequencies with incredible detail, clarity, and definition. Stronger than conventional alternatives used in dynamic drivers, yet lightweight, this composite helps us avoid resonances that can lead to harmonic distortion.
The ultra-thin torus surrounding the dome is composed of a 22-micron thick beryllium-coated semi-crystalline polymer. With the beryllium coating applied via Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), we aimed to increase the driver’s rigidity and durability, while still keeping it light enough to achieve fast transient response.

The high damping qualities of beryllium also help suppress unwanted resonances, giving the 109 PRO its neutral, vivid and transparent character. Around the diaphragm, a copper-zinc alloy stabilizer ring improves vibration absorption to further reduce distortion.
The diaphragm is encased in a high-precision machined aluminum frame that has superior rigidity to typical plastic frames and maintains perfect surface flatness, essential for precision assembly with the diaphragm.
ACOUSTIC DESIGN
Through its open design, we wanted the 109 PRO to be vivid and emotional, allowing the listener to connect with the music on a deeper level.
Carefully tuned by our in-house engineering team, it delivers emotionally engaging sound with great detail, clarity and just the right amount of punch. Its organic character, combined with superior dynamics, excellent imaging and full-bodied vocals, bring to life moving details. Plus, it’s easy to drive most devices, whether portable sources or complex home setups.
The spider-shaped structure and acoustically transparent grille inside the earcup expose the driver on both sides, creating our most open design to date. Using anthropometric principles, we positioned the driver at a precise angle and distance from the ear, resulting in an ideal anatomical fit. 109 pro design

The velvet cushions comfortably surround your ears, providing the perfect seal to create a natural sound. Since velvet is much softer and more breathable than leather, it also prevents sweating and overheating during long listening sessions.

The 109 PRO is all about comfort: from the structural design of the headphones to the choice of materials, every decision has been carefully made to ensure that the final product meets our highest standards in terms of ergonomics. Once placed on the head, the headphones should become imperceptible, leaving you alone with the music.
With this in mind, we combined walnut wood, zinc, manganese steel and vegan leather into a comfortable, lightweight yet highly durable structure.

The black walnut wood we use for our headphones comes strictly from certified sources, harvested from mature trees that have reached the end of their life cycle. This protects the environment, making room for new life, while the old trees shine again, in the shape of the Meze headphones.

The 109 PRO is crafted with sustainability in mind. Because our choices today can have a big impact on tomorrow’s world, we design products that last. We believe that a longer product lifespan means a smaller footprint. Following this philosophy, the 109 PRO can be disassembled and serviced indefinitely if needed, which can extend the life of the product beyond the limit.
