Wireless connectivity
Every Q Active system includes Bluetooth® 4.1, Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect and UPnP connectivity. Q Active is also Roon Ready. The hub is available in two versions, one that works with Amazon Alexa † coming soon , or one that works with a Google Assistant-enabled device with Chromecast built-in™.
Plus, Q Active is designed to support your favorite streaming service’s native app, for easy, seamless access to music from around the world. Q Active works with Amazon Music, Apple Music, Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify, and Tidal.
Hub selection
Compatible with a Google Assistant-enabled device with Chromecast built-in™ or Works with Amazon Alexa.
The Q Active Hub is the heart of the system and also takes physical formats and converts them into a high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz digital file. The Hub then streams this high-resolution audio file to your speakers, so whatever format you want to listen to can be handled wirelessly by your Q Active system. This means you can enjoy high-quality wireless audio performance no matter where your music is coming from.

Ethernet
Ethernet connectivity provides the option for a stable wired connection to the Internet for Q Active.
Multi-room audio integration
You can choose Chromecast built-in, Amazon Multiroom Music, Apple AirPlay 2 or Roon to organize your multiroom music system. Q Active can be seamlessly integrated into each of them.
So whether you want the same song to play throughout your home, or listen to different music in different areas, or simply want your music to follow you as you move around your home, Q Active can be a part of any of these experiences.
Voice control
If you have Apple Siri, Amazon Alexa, or a Google Assistant-enabled speaker on your home network, it’s easy to control the volume and playback selection of your Q Active system. Simply choose the hub you want: the hub that works with Amazon Alexa or the hub that works with Google Assistant-enabled devices with Chromecast built-in. Both versions of the hub can be used with Apple Siri.
With any of these three features, you can control your Q Active system with your voice. You can also use the Google Home app or the Amazon Alexa app to control your Q Active system.
Your choice of control
In addition to your choice of voice assistant, Q Active can also be controlled using your favourite streaming apps. Or, if the TV connected to the HDMI ARC socket on the control hub has CEC, you can use the TV remote to control functions such as ‘volume’ and ‘standby’. Alternatively, you can use the volume control functions available on the cabinet of each Q Active speaker.
Amazing high resolution sound
Audio can be defined as ‘high-resolution’ audio if it consists of a digital audio format higher than the CD standard 16-bit/44.1kHz. Q Active can support wireless streaming at a maximum source resolution of 32-bit/192kHz, either from its control hub via a smartphone or tablet.
This means that any source connected to the hub will be converted into an information-rich 24-bit/96kHz digital format before being streamed to your Q Active speakers – and the top tier of any high-resolution music streaming service will also stream at this resolution.
The result of all this meticulous and uncompromising engineering is extraordinary musical precision and audio quality. Q Active delivers sonic performance that far exceeds its price.
Active amplification
In a traditional passive audio system, you need one amplifier to drive two loudspeakers, which will have a total of at least four drivers. In the Q Active system, each driver (there are three in each Q Active 200 speaker and four in each Q Active 400 speaker) is controlled by its own, specially selected amplifier.
Using a total of six (or eight) discrete amplifiers, with a total of 280 (or 440) watts of power to drive the Q Active system, each individual driver receives its own specific amplification. As a result, Q Active is able to control each driver with precision and finesse which, in short, means that Q Active sounds bigger and more precise than you might think.
Dynamic "widescreen" sound with large sound image
But Q Active’s uniqueness is not an end in itself. Q Acoustics wanted Q Active to deliver sound with a wide soundstage and no compromises in terms of stereo focus or soundstage, with the Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) drivers selected.
BMR drivers enable Q Active to deliver exceptional sound quality across the entire listening area, rather than being limited to the ‘sweet spot’ achieved with more traditional driver solutions. And on top of this widescreen performance, BMRs deliver perfect midrange performance. Because they reproduce down to 150Hz, where Q Active’s subwoofer driver sits, there is no midrange crossover distortion, enabling a completely clean, uncoloured midrange performance.
The off-centre positioning of the BMR drivers in the Q Active cabinet also serves a purpose. It allows for a certain level of fine-tuning within the listening environment, as the BMR drivers can be positioned further inwards or further outwards.
Powerful and controlled bass
The back of a normal speaker is not usually the subject of analysis. But, as is surely clear by now, the Q Active is far from being a normal speaker – and that goes for the back of its cabinet as well.
Q Active 200 features a 114mm / (4.5 inch) rear-firing subwoofer that delivers fast, deep, well-managed bass. Q Active 400 features a pair of subwoofers to double its low-end action.
The subwoofers operate with a fixed ‘waveguide’ boundary to ensure that Q Active’s bass response is always perfectly controlled, no matter where you decide to place the speaker in the listening room.

Rather than attempting to retrofit one of its existing speaker designs with electronic circuitry, Q Acoustics designed Q Active from the ground up with the express intent of producing an absolutely uncompromising high-resolution audio system with a unique aesthetic and sound.

In addition to the panoramic, widescreen sound delivered by the BMR drivers and the deep, controlled bass from carefully selected and positioned subwoofers, Q Acoustics has paid meticulous attention to how the Q Active cabinet contributes to the system's exceptional sonic performance.
Balance and rigidity
‘Dart’ bracing is featured in both the Q Active 200 and Q Active 400 cabinets to provide essential cabinet rigidity and equally useful mechanical stability for the rear-firing subwoofer units.
In Q Active 400, careful positioning of the two subwoofers means that standing waves within the cabinet that could colour the sound are effectively neutralised to deliver a powerful linear bass response.
Optimized for your environment
Unlike most speakers, Q Active is optimised to perform to its full potential no matter where it’s placed in your listening room. And unlike most speakers, Q Active is remarkably forgiving of less-than-ideal placement. Its driver configuration means it’s one of the most flexible and best-sounding speakers you can buy at any price.
Speaker arrangement
Q Active speakers can be positioned with the BMR drivers in the internal or external position, allowing for perfect audio reproduction no matter where you sit, close to the speakers or further away from them. There is a simple switch on the back of each Q Active speaker to set it as a left or right channel speaker.
Setting the positioning
A second switch lets you tell the speaker precisely where it’s positioned in relation to the room: close to a rear wall, in a corner, or in an open space. This information allows Q Active to fine-tune its low-frequency response to deliver the best possible sound no matter the situation.
Two beautiful finishes
Both the Q Active 200 and Q Active 400 are available in two finishes: matte white or matte black. Both finishes are beautifully crafted, both softly reflect ambient light, and both will enhance the look of any home decor.
Tensegrity Support
Q Active 200 can be used with a bespoke stand. Inspired by the innovative Tensegrity stand developed by Q Acoustics for its flagship Concept 300 loudspeaker, the Q Active 200 stand minimises resonance from the floor to the cabinet (and back again) thanks to its dramatically reduced mass and low-reflection design. And beyond its acoustic benefits, the stand’s minimal design is the perfect visual complement to the Q Active 200’s unique look.
