The Rega Planar 3 RS Edition (Rega Special) is constructed using a brand new HPL laminate with aluminum metal cladding to create the most rigid Planar 3-level plinth we have ever produced. This stunning dark brushed metal plinth, edged in gloss black, creates a stunning platform for the iconic Planar 3. The RS Edition includes a custom Neo MK2 power supply with each motor vibration circuit hand-tuned for each individual motor. This low-noise 24V motor drives the sub-platter via our Reference EBLT drive belt for the ultimate in precision speed control. Finally, the legendary handmade RB330 tonearm is fitted and supplied with the all-new award-winning Nd5 moving magnet cartridge.

Optimizing an icon.
Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight, ultra-rigid plinths for many years. Our use of a lightweight particle core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the foundation of the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic original Planar range.

The new Planar 3 RS Edition takes this design philosophy to the next level by utilizing a high-pressure laminate (HPL) typically reserved for the Planar 6, Planar 8, and Planar 10 models for increased rigidity. Additionally, this premium HPL features a stunning dark brushed aluminum skin with a stunning satin finish. You'll also find our double-bracing system mounted specifically where additional rigidity is required (between the tonearm mount and the main hub bearing), forming a structurally sound "stressed beam" assembly.

This complex plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which would add unnatural distortion to the music. Likewise, a heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise, directly into the rotating disc. The use of bracing allows for the use of double-thickness phenolic resin in these key areas, directly addressing the problem of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.

ND5 MOVING MAGNET CARTRIDGE

Each Nd5 is meticulously handcrafted by our highly skilled technicians. The stylus profile is a perfect elliptical naked diamond. This is a true ellipse created by an elliptical grinding process made from polycrystalline man-made diamond. The design uses a brand new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to achieve accurate channel balancing. The Nd5 also has an optimised pole piece gap for superior linearity and crosstalk characteristics. This provides a much wider soundstage than previous models. This new cartridge is created with miniature parallel coils that are wound internally using 38-micron wire with only 1275 turns. This produces a low-inductance, low-impedance generator that offers significantly improved high-frequency response. In line with our commitment to sustainability, the Nd range is supplied in 100% recyclable packaging. The Nd5 was recently reviewed by Hi-Fi Choice "it's abundantly clear that Rega has built a star turn here. The Nd5 is a marked improvement over its long-standing predecessors (the Elys2 and Exact) and one of the best designs available at the moment under £300."

NEO MK2 POWER SUPPLY

The Neo MK2 power supply is an advanced turntable power supply that provides user-controllable fine-tuning of speed, an advanced anti-vibration motor circuit, and the convenience of electronic speed shifting. The Neo MK2 reduces motor noise, improves speed stability, and increases rotational speed accuracy.

DOUBLE ARM TECHNOLOGY

3mm phenolic lower tonearm and phenolic upper tonearm with a metallic coating. The Planar 3 RS Editions plinth is further reinforced using our double brace system. Mounted specifically where increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mount and the main hub bearing), this forms a structurally sound "stressed beam" assembly. The RB330 tonearm was designed using the latest 3D CAD and CAM technology and is the culmination of over 40 years of tonearm design experience. Featuring our latest bearing housing and armtube, designed using intelligent mass redistribution, this tonearm has fewer potential resonance points. Extreme stability, zero bearing play, and the virtually frictionless movement of the new high-precision bearing assemblies ensure more information is collected from your vinyl than ever before.
