Maxima Amateur

Entirely made in Italy, Maxima Amator is the completion of a project begun in the past but then abandoned because it was considered unfeasible: the two-way concept applied to a solid wood floor cabinet.

The 2-way for Sonus Faber has always been a workhorse, a sacred concept that represents a historical link with its origins. In general, the 2-way speaker in the imagination of high fidelity enthusiasts is one of the purest systems achievable.

Maxima Amator was for this reason pure fun for us, as it was the exaltation of a world that has as protagonists two speakers fused together in the best possible way that give a unique emotion, representing the maximum expression of the concept of the “Voice of Sonus Faber”.

Maxima Amator required a more in-depth study than its smaller sisters as it is characterised by a large solid wood cabinet.
Since solid wood is a living and changeable material, it risked deformation or even breakage.

Thanks to the use of new drying methods, the use of internal crosspieces fixed with more flexible glues and modern CNC machines, which allow us to keep much tighter tolerances than in the past, we have overcome the structural limits of the project. After studying the cabinet and choosing the speakers, we dedicated ourselves to the search for the perfect balance of timbre.

This is how the new IFF Crossover was born, “Interactive Fusion Filtering”, the heart of Maxima Amator but at the same time its brain, which allowed us to obtain a total fusion of the two speakers in favor of an extremely natural sound and liquidity in reproduction, with the strong desire to push even further beyond its own standards.

The last step in the long design process of Maxima Amator was, as always, “listening by ear”. Alongside technique, the R&D team relied on the listening experience and the emotions of music, because Sonus Faber is made of this: passion for knowledge, sensitivity for beauty and love for tradition.
