SRM - 400 S - Dedicated amplifier for electrostatic headphones
STAX introduces a new semiconductor driver unit SRM-400S, the successor model to the SRM-353X. STAX's custom low-noise DUAL FET circuit is installed in the primary stage. The FET is also installed in the output stage. The characteristics of the right FET and left FET are rigorously measured. The FETs are selected in the same way as for the SRM-700S. The new SRM-400S benefits from the same design and manufacturing method as the high-end SRM-700S, the amplifier whose FETs are installed in all stages. In addition to the conventional power transformer for the high-voltage circuit, the newly developed power transformer with winding for the low-voltage circuit is installed in the SRM-400S. The low-voltage winding improves power efficiency, achieving further energy savings and better sound quality than conventional driver units such as the SRM-353X.
The new, more rigid chassis of the conventional model is used. The chassis has a hybrid structure that uses a lot of non-magnetic aluminum and further reduces the effect of environmental noise factors such as vibration. The inputs are RCA and XLR, mutual exclusion inputs. The custom-made concentric dual volume knob that is common to STAX products and the RCA PARALLEL OUT functions are present as in conventional driver units. All electrical components are strictly selected taking into account the environment. The sound quality and performance are also improved. The complete DC amplifier configuration that the signal circuit includes without coupling capacitors is one of the greatest traditional features.
The SRM-400S captures the high-resolution sound that is unique to the semiconductor circuit and dynamic low-range sound reproduction. At the same time, the good balance of sound is further pursued compared to SRM-353X. From the low range to the high range, the sound of each range is well-harmonized. Not only for the combination with the advanced lambda series, the SRM-400S is also ideal for upgrading the entry-level SRS-3100 system. This is the promising new model that meets the needs from beginners to intermediate in the renewed STAX amplifier lineup.
