The Unison Unico 150 is the Italian brand's flagship dual-mono integrated amplifier , capable of delivering 150W into 8 Ohms and a whopping 220W into 4 Ohms. This powerhouse uses a three-stage circuit to achieve an unrivaled level of linearity . All the gain – and with it the amplifier's sonic character – is controlled by the first two pure Class A valve stages, which combine with MOSFETs at the output.

The Unison Unico 150 is an integrated amplifier capable of delivering 150W RMS into an 8Ω load, rising to a whopping 220W by halving the impedance. Thanks to the Italian brand 's decades of experience, the project was executed following highly scientific criteria, but with the primary goal of satisfying even the most demanding audiophiles. This dual approach has led to the creation of a one-of- a-kind integrated amplifier, unlike any released by other manufacturers and by Unison Research itself, representing the flagship model of Italian production to date.

The heart of the circuit , as with the rest of the Unico series , is a hybrid structure , but in this case we are faced with a very powerful and great-sounding dual-mono amplifier , with only three stages that blend the refinement of the two tube preamp stages with the power of the MOSFET one. The company has designed its amplifiers with as few stages as possible, according to the “less is more” philosophy. In this Unico 150 the input stage uses two ECC83 triodes in a totem-pole configuration while the driver stage uses two 6H30 triodes in a totem-pole configuration for almost zero distortion, minimal output impedance and well-controlled gain. The configuration of these stages, as well as the use of a high-quality but entirely passive ALPS Blu volume control and armoured input switching relays, ensure that the Unico 150 can offer unrivalled clarity in its sonic performance.

The entire preamplifier section is directly coupled to each channel's power stage for a coherent, full-range output. Featuring dual-mono, zero-feedback, solid-state Class A/B MOSFETs , the preamplifier section is capable of delivering plenty of power—enough to drive high volume levels from most speakers. Additionally, the power section has been configured to offer ample headroom without sacrificing sonic performance or amplifier drive capability.

The whole thing is supported by two large, encapsulated, push-pull toroidal transformers placed one above the other in the front central area and capable of delivering 400VA + 400VA continuous power.

Unison Research's Unico range of hybrid Hi-Fi electronics has earned a solid reputation among audiophiles worldwide in recent years. Its elegant yet commanding styling , combined with high-end sonic performance , has resulted in an enviable line of amplifiers and source products that complement the Italian company's iconic all-tube offering. The Unico 150 dual-mono integrated amplifier was designed from the ground up, undergoing extensive electrical and listening testing, and has become the flagship of the Unico range .

Circuit

It might even be the amplifier that satisfies both tube and silicon enthusiasts, thanks to a clever blend of the two elements, combined with meticulous technical and sonic engineering. These choices have led to a simple and linear structure , with no global feedback and little local feedback.

The circuit is developed on a single PCB to the full advantage of the reduction of the signal path and the rationality of the layout, which together with a saving in terms of resources and space , are the most evident advantages of an integrated project, in line, as for the rest of the range, with the principles of the founder. Giovanni Maria Sacchetti.

Unison Unico 90: Connections

As with the smaller Unison Unico 90 , we are faced with a completely analogue machine. The Unico 150's rear connections are of high quality and include a decent number of line-level inputs: four RCA inputs (CD, Tuner, Aux1 and Bypass, to be used in a multi-channel configuration in which the volume level will be controlled by an external AV processor) as well as a pair of balanced XLRs.

Transformers are used for the balanced inputs for truly balanced transmission, which also act as galvanic isolators. These details , as well as the high-quality and elegant RCA connectors and the Unison Research-branded speaker connections, elevate the Unico 150 above the norm .

Design and Functions

At 25kg , the Unison Unico 150 exudes pure solidity . The large, well-finished chassis is built to the same meticulous standards as previous models in the Unico line, but this integrated amplifier is the first to boast the aesthetic upgrade of the new three-plate front panel , which then inspired the design of its smaller brother, the Unico 90. The elegant yet understated front panel, made of brushed anodised aluminium and available in black or silver , is made up of three vertical panels of 15mm thick aluminium, chamfered on the vertical plane near their junction.
The integrated amplifier is massive but very well-proportioned, its appearance is very pleasing and appears slimmer than it actually is. But don't be fooled by its minimalist appearance: the high-end technology hidden inside, the build quality , as well as the finish and materials, as usual at Unison Research, reach maniacal levels.

Thanks to the two huge aluminum heat sinks, joined by a metal bar that further increases the rigidity of the frame, and the well-ventilated top, the heat is limited above the heat sinks, in short: the Unison 150 does not get particularly hot.

As for the interface, we also find two large knobs , also made of aluminum, positioned symmetrically; these are the volume control and the rotary input selector that operates the relays.
In the center, a small porthole hides the infrared receiver, and on the sides, two lines of white LEDs indicate the selected input. Operation is very simple: in addition to the front panel controls, a remote control is included with the amplifier.

The Unico 150 has a short warm-up cycle before you can use it, during which the power indicator LEDs for both channels flash. Unison recommends at least 10 minutes of warm-up time before you get started.
